The City of Russellville has earned a Class 2 rating by the Insurance Services Office (ISO). This classification places Russellville in the top 2% of all fire departments throughout the United States and top 1% in the State of Alabama.
ISO’s Fire Suppression Rating Schedule (FSRS) lists a large number of items a community should have to fight fires effectively in each of the following categories; fire suppression, emergency communications, water supply, and community risk reduction.
In each of those protection areas, ISO analyzes the relevant data and assigns a Public Protection Classification — a grading from 1 to 10. Class 1 generally represents superior property fire protection and Class 10 indicates that the area’s fire suppression program does not meet ISO’s minimum criteria. The FSRS includes standards set by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the American Water Works Association (AWWA).
After assigning a rating, ISO provides this information to the insurance industry, which most use as a factor in calculating insurance premiums for residential, commercial and industrial properties. For more information on ISO, refer to their website.
